Dear Darling Ones, While I do have lucky, pretty eyes, they are not very good at seeing. I got my first pair of glasses* when I was in 8th grade. It only took a year of complaining about being unable to see for my parents to take me to the cheap glasses place in the Northtown Mall. My eyes are the kind of bad that I have to spend extra-money on lenses, lest I walk around with heavy, Coke-bottle-esque lenses….
Things I Said to My Cat Yesterday
Hey Darling Ones, This is a list of things I said out loud to Wendell, my cat, yesterday. Good morning. She woke from a dream. Her head was on fire. Why was he so nervous? Stop that. Knock it off. You’re the best cat I ever met. People ask me all the time, “How did Wendell get to be such a good cat?” And I tell them, “I don’t know. I think he was born that way.” Hey, Lloyd, I’m…
New Notebooks & The Recurring Nightmare
Hello Darling Ones, It only took me 49 years and roughly 18,273 (conservatively) notebooks to finally find the perfect notebook for me. It’s the Milko A5 Spiral-Bound. I get it with the kraft-paper hard cover and the dot grid. I love these notebooks so much. They’re not too big, not too small, not too expensive, and they have a handy, dandy pocket in the back cover for random things (like a menu to the Dragon Cafe). Also, the covers are…
The 9 Best of the First 99 Books I Read this Year
Dear Darling Ones, I finished reading book #99 in 2021. It was about menopause. I know slightly more about the mysterious biological happening than I did before, which isn’t saying much. To celebrate the milestone I re-read Jeff Tweedy’s memoir (more on that in a minute). My goal for reading this year was to read widely and voraciously. I want to read about all kinds of things, which is why I’ve read a bunch about visual art and a crapton…
The Sound of Settling
Hi Darling Ones, I frequently like to joke about how rude Time & Math are and how they hurt my feelings all the damn time. Today both of those fuckers hurt my feelings and while I should be reveling in my old glasses with new lenses and zero bifocals, instead I’m still trying to do math and feeling every one of my nearly fifty years. After picking up the new-old specs, I drove over to Hy-Vee to pick up my…
Professional Development
Hi Darling Ones, This afternoon I had one of those out of body experiences that occasionally happen when I’m talking to people about work things. Today it happened while I was talking to two people about some marketing stuff they want for their new business. For the record, I call all the things I do to make the dollars “marketing stuff.” I keep details of my work intentionally vague because even in 2021, blogging about it feels treacherous. Long gone…
