SotW: Rumbleseat

I’ve said before that when I feel especially troubled instead of praying, I sing The Beatles’ “Let it Be.” Usually, I sing it to the Gastby Lights. I am a religion of one with really strange rituals.

One of the other tenets of my religion is that John Cougar Mellencamp’s music comforts the weary of mind and spirit. That has been me this past week and Supergenius HQ has been awash in the tunes of Johnny the Coug, specifically “Rumbleseat” and “Ain’t Even Done with the Night.” This is unusual because I’m usually all about “Cherry Bomb” and his cover of “Wild Night” with Me’Shell Ndegeocello. I love singing her parts of the duet. I get into it to a ridiculous, embarrassing degree.

Last night as I was trying to sleep and not really succeeding, my brain decided to mashup my love of The Coug with “Let it Be” and sang, on repeat, for an hour this little ditty:
When I find myself in times of trouble, Johnny Cougar comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, Tastee Freez.

It was hell. Thankfully, for most of the week I’ve been singing “Rumbleseat” in my head, and I much prefer that.
