every other day, every other day, of the week is fine

i love matthew sweet. so it should come as no surprise to you that i woke up early yesterdary morning (and incidentally can i talk a moment about the sleep and how my body has decided that sleep is for the weak? because i did not get to vote in the should we sleep should we not sleep poll and my body decided we are done with the sleep until sometime in november) just so i could download the Sid N’ Susie “Under the Covers vol. 1 album.

sid and susie in real life are matthew sweet and susanna hoffs (think eternal flame, walk like an egyptian), and this is a record filled with cover songs (i &heart; cover songs). i’ve listened to it no less than four times since i downloaded it. it has replaced Of Montreal as my new ‘getting ready’ record. and by getting ready, i mean marching back and forth between the laundry room, the bathroom, and my bedroom in various stages of undress trying to remember where my jeans are and if my hair really needs to be brushed (this is all usually done with a toothbrush hanging from my mouth).

so yes, back to my point. there’s this scene in High Fidelity where Rob’s talking about the top five things he loves about Laura. he loves the way she laughs, and the way she rubs her feet together an equal number of times when she can’t sleep, and the way she smells. then he says something like “it’s a trick of human chemistry, some people just smell like home.”

and after listening to all these non-matthew sweet songs sung by matthew sweet, i have come to think that some people just sound like comfort. he sounds like comfort to me, even when he’s doing a vaguely weird cover of bob dylan’s “it’s all over now, baby blue” (which is my favorite dylan song [which is what i say everytime i hear any dylan song]).

the album’s pretty rad. i’d encourage you to get, at least visit the site and listnen to monday, monday. that song’s just damn rad.

    3. I misssss her smell…and the way she tastes. It’s a mystery of human chemistry and I don’t understand it. Some people, as far as their senses are concerned just…feel like…home.

good songs. They even make that Beach Boys song sound better.
