While I Was Moping

Well, well, well, Darling Ones,

How the heck are you?

I’m coming out of a deep well of financial anxiety. I got hit with a quadruple whammy to the pocketbook. Property taxes + IRS bill (I didn’t pay ’em enough apparently) + the bill for my ER trip in February + news I need to get a water softener. Ayiyiyiyi.

The universe doesn’t care that I’m recovering from a stroke (still) and frankly, that’s rude.

While the financial crisis remains, the anxiety around it has lessened. Praise be to Lexapro.

I don’t know if it’s the increased dose or the 48 ounces of cold brew coffee, but today I feel good. I was even out of bed, dressed, and downstairs before 11 a.m. Did you know if you get out bed before noon you can have more coffee?

And, just to brag, I used my caffeine-induced energy to make a loaf of banana bread & 24 banana bread muffins. My freezer has been completely bananaed and will momentarily be banana breaded once that stuff finishes cooling.

The other thing I’ve been doing while moping is working on the catghan. This is a project I started in January 2023 and then got waylaid by the dumb stroke. My goal is to finish the masterpiece this month. It’s a belated birthday gift for my nephew-in-law. That’s what I’ve decided to call my niece’s long-term partner. We don’t need no stinkin’ marriage license to be family.

I’m eager to finish the afghan. It’ll be the first blanket I’ve finished since the stroke. Like the reappearance of the adult grey pigtails, it feels like an “I’m back” moment. Slowly, the new normal is feeling more normal.

Plus, once I finish the catghan I can start on my top secret State Fair Blanket, which is going to be EPIC.

Love,
Jodi
