In a minute, I’m going to quote Amy Bloom’s White Houses, her lovely novel about the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hickock. If you’re in the mood for a bittersweet and super interesting romance, you can’t go wrong with this book.
Anyway at one point Lorena, Eleanor’s kind-of-but-not-really secret lover, says, “I have been lonely in my life but never when drinking strong coffee, wearing my fleecy slippers, and standing in my own kitchen.”
I thought of that quote, and I think of it often, this morning while I was sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee, Walter in my lap, Sully next to us on the couch, and Cat Power’s new record playing on Alexa. It was really lovely and I’m glad I recognized it in the moment, because everything went to hell shortly after that.
Things went to hell because of weird syncing issues with OneDrive and just reminded me that I should never trust Microsoft software to do anything intuitively on my mac. Also, how about some big thumbs down and farty noises for working on a Saturday.
As you can tell today was kind of dud except for that nice moment this morning.
