I have to admit that 2007 2008 [editor’s note: it has been brought to my attention that I have no idea what the hell year it is] might go down as a sort of cultural dark age for our fair heroine. Aside from literature I was totally out of the loop on most everything. And even with literature, it was only after going over my list that I realized I wasted a lot of time reading bad books.
Whiskey tango foxtrot my friends?
So I’ve made a few resolutions to keep myself on track with the zeitgeist and all that hoo ha.
1.) I’m gonna read at least one graphic novel and one short story collection a month in addition to my usual novel reading. 2007 2008 was woefully lacking in sparkling short story collections. That makes me sad. I also need to get better about writing about the books after I read them. Sometimes I put it of and then forget what the hell happened. Like, for instance, I think I read David Means’ collection The Secret Goldfish. I know I read the title story, but I can’t for the life of me remember if I read the rest of the collection.
2.) I’m going to buy at least two new albums a month. I am much too ashamed to admit how lame I was in my music-listening habits last year. It was bad. I blame a lot of that on not having a job and plugging into the TV instead of my iPod. It’s a poor excuse, but it is the truth.
So far this has been my favorite resolution thus far. If you follow me on Twitter you know I can’t seem to shut up about Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles. I downloaded Orange Peels and Rattlesnakes a little over a week ago and have listened to it 13 times already. It’s really that good.
There are other resolutions, but they aren’t as interesting. They involve writing, commenting on other blogs, and that kind of boring stuff.
