dear chicago,
i used to have a big giant crush on you. i really really did. not only did i have one of the best times of my entire life there within in the confines of your borders, but you are also the home to such awesome things as liz phair, jeff tweedy, andrew bird, material issue, and my pal zook.
but you know what chicago. i’m pissed. and i know it’s not your fault but i don’t know who else to take it out on. so i’m taking it out on you.
this snow stuff? what the fuck? couldn’t you wait until tomorrow when i was already home? don’t you realize that you’re like the most important travel hub for the entire free world? well, you are. you need to do somethign about the snow. perhaps you need to give some good loving to mother nature. do something, pretty please?
because while canada has been lovely. i want to go home. i was supposed to be home at 8:30 tonight, but NOOOOOOOO. no. the flight to chicago was cancelled. of course it couldn’t have been cancelled in a timely manner. nope, that’d have been to easy, huh chicago? no, we had to sit out on the tarmac for about 4 hours before the fight was cancelled.
however, that was actually not so bad. in fact it was totally, totally surreal. see there were only like 14 people on the flight so we cut loose. at one point, the captain came back into the cabin and dug his greenday CD out of his carryon. yes, so we were listening to greenday. i called sister #4 with an update on my arrival plans and she said, “are you in a bar?’
“no,” i said.
“where are you?”
“i’m on the plane.”
“it’s really loud.”
“yeah, we’re listening to greenday.”
then the guy sitting behind me burned the songs from his shuffle onto a CD, and we listened to pink floyd, the doors, and neil young.
also the entire time everyone was getting loopy on the free booze they were handing out. chicago, when i am more awake and at home, i promise to tell you about the tarmac sitting. in the meantime, buy mother nature some chocolates or something. okay? because i really, really want to go home.
love,
jodi
What a memorable experience! Glad it turned out well for you, it could have been ugly.
Wow, I bet you are glad you weren’t at Midway
were you on my plane? united express? we fly that route – I fly an Embraer 170 – otherwise known as the 180 because it ends up going back to the gate so much (new plane = glitches) 🙂
but the weather hasn’t made it so fun this week…
