Who are you?

After listening to all seventeen hours and fifty-six minutes of Pete Townshend’s autobiography I felt as though I deserved some kind of merit badge. Or a cookie. A reward was definitely in order because, man, this was one long-ass listen (the hardcover weighs in at 544 pages). I’m not sure what kind of fan of The Who you have to be to enjoy this tome. Maybe they have to be, to you a potential reader, the kind of band that…

The Rock & Roll Pillow

“Aunt Jodi, close your eyes,” Cade shouted as I walked up the stairs at Sister #2’s house. “Okay.” I stood in the middle of the living room with my eyes clothes. Walter jumped against my calves in desperate need of Aunt Jodi time since we had cancelled last week’s Family Dinner due to inclement weather and sickness. “I guess you don’t need to close your eyes.” He walked over to me with his hands behind his back. “I just made…

Shut Up About TV Spoilers You Big Whiner

Last week, like most everyone in my Twitter feed, I watched “Downton Abbey” when it was on at 8 p.m. Central Time. It was a dramatic, emotional episode and watching it with Twitter was all kinds of fun. In fact, there’s a lot of event TV I like to watch with Twitter — elections, award-shows, and the State of the Union address. It’s the same kind of fun I imagine people who tweet incessantly during certain Sports! events have, except…

Even growing up football was a thing for my family. We were hockey people. We went to North Star games at the Met Center and watched them on TV. As…

A Sound Like Someone Trying Not to Make a Sound: A Post About Paco

Generally, I’m the type of person who wakes up in the morning and gets right out of bed. I don’t lollygag under the covers once I’m awake. I’m not a soak up the glory of the morning and contemplate the day in bed person. It’s fine if you are, we’ll just never sleep with each other. Okay? I am also not the type of person who gets out of bed before the coffee maker beeps. Yes, I have the kind…

The Who as an AP History lesson regarding Communism

Last night the Rock & Roll Booklub gathered together to discuss Pete Townshend’s autobiography Who I Am?. It is long and even though I did not finish it in time, we still had a great discussion and today I am delving into The Who’s music. I’ve never been a particular fan of The Who. I wasn’t against them. It was just that they got filtered into that “Classic Rock I Do Not” like bucket and so it goes. However, I…
