nobody at westerberg is gonna let you play their reindeer games

today when i went to target to get two new bookcases (and nothing else) i came back with two new books (best short stories of 2003 and toni morrison’s Love) and Heathers on DVD. man i forgot how very much i love this movie. i know it practically by heart, still.

i could still do the
“you were a bluebird, you were a brownie, you were a girlscoutcookie” spiel

color me impressed.

heathers was on my top five list in high school, along with Dead Poets Society, Grease II and the World According to Garp.

“If you’re happy every day of your life, you wouldn’t be a human being. You would be a game show host”

I liked that quote from Heathers so much I stuck it on my yahoo profile… I still love Winona, even if she is nuts….

I always liked ‘..well fuck me gently with a chainsaw..’ 🙂

There’s a Heathers quote for every occasion I think.

Back in the day (pre 1988) there was a local TV show in South Bend, Indiana called Beyond Our Control. It was sponsored by Junior Achievement and starred, staffed, was sold advertising for entirely by High School students. The quality of episode varied from one week to another. It was decidedly NOT professional, but more like pre-cable-access-channel-esque. It did inspire several people to greatness in Hollywood. I know this because my sister was one of those starry-eyed teens. While she never achieved fame, outside of a few radio hosting jobs, many of her close friends did. Including a young Danny Waters (writer of “Heathers” and screen writer of “Demolition Man” among other credits) and David Simkins (writer of “Adventures in Babysitting” among others). I met these guys when they were quirky teens. I was an even quirkier pre-teen. They were over at my house quite a bit, and Heathers has an homage to my familial home. In one of the bathroom shots, you can see a toilet paper holder that has a built-in rack for Reader’s Digest magazines. Yes. That was there at the Crowell household.

Not much, but it’s all I got for a Monday Morning…
