Dear World of Music Listeners,
What new music are you listening to that gets your heart all racy and your ears excited? My ears are bored with everything I like.
Thanks,
The Mgmt.
Space Capitan by The Black Crowes. Off the “Freak – n – Roll CD. I’d never heard it until I got the CD, bluesy, good message and something that you would naturally clap along too. My New Fave, by an Old Fave.
The Constantines – Tournament of Hearts
Wrens – Meadowlands
Fruit Bats – Spelled in Bones
Telemetry Orchestra – Empire
The Rosebuds – Birds Make Good Neighbors
I stole Poison actually, and the SexyBack one is only available on the one you can get from Wal-Mart. I know where you can get it if you want it without stepping foot inside of Wal-Mart.
Really, really, I am still obsessed with The Hold Steady. Jodi, if you do not have Boys and Girls in America yet, I don’t think I can continue to consider you as an expert in amazing local music.
And, that album is so good at evoking a certain time/place when we were young and naive and hopeful. I have such an “I was totally there” feeling when I listen to this.
Oh hell yes, I have that. I’ve had it for so many months that I can’t even count as recent music. I have all The Hold Steady albums. That one song about being at the Northtown Mall. . . that was my mall growing up. I spent a lot of time at the Northtown Mall.
Ok, according to itunes this is what I’ve been listening to over the past 48 hours (none of it is a recent release, but it just might be new to you):
“Versus God” – Dillinger Four
“Homegrown” – Dodgy
“Jailbreak” – Thin Lizzy
“The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World” – Supersuckers
“Destination: Diamonds” – Diamond Knights
“Journey: Greatest Hits” – Journey (and no, I’m not gonna apologize for it. Don’t stop believin’, dammit!)
I have been listening to a station on iTunes called Whiskey From A Wire, and writing down the names of artists I like. It has been a good way for me to find new music. Of course I lost my list, so I started a new one. The first band on it is The National. Good stuffs.

Roisin Murphy’s Ruby Blue. Sort of industrial dance Enya. Or something. Very fun though.

I kinda love Rehab by Amy Winehouse right now. There’s also the new Poison CD, which is hilarious because it’s all cover songs, including Sexyback.
Of course you bought the new Poison CD, that doesn’t surprise me at all. And of course I am going to iTunes right now to check out the sound clips.
(I’m kinda bored with Rehab already, I wore it out over memorial day weekend)
Some obscure stuff I’ve been enjoying lately:
The Constantines – Tournament of Hearts
Wrens – Meadowlands
Fruit Bats – Spelled in Bones
Telemetry Orchestra – Empire
The Rosebuds – Birds Make Good Neighbors

Dungen’s Tio Bitar
Bowerbirds’ Hymns for a Dark Horse
Alina Simone’s album, Placelessness
Wendy, give me the hookup!
