remember when class first started and i got all hopped up about the woman lecturing about the use of the word “faggot” in a story?
well, she came back with a one-two punch that has left me floored.
tonight we workshopped the woman’s story. it was like a lesson on PCness or something. or as the NBFB so aptly put it, “it was a diversity lecture.”
the story is about this teacher and a student whose not doing so swell in class and so the teacher calls a conference. once the mother gets to the conference the teacher makes all sorts of assumptions about low-income, single parentness, and what not. pretty boneheaded stuff.
so we talk about the story (which btw, was all telling and no showing and poor, poor punctuation, and POV shifts, and really obvious mistakes that Jeff thinks are suspect).
so anyway once we’re done talking about the story she asks, “so what race assumptions did you make about the characters?”
how totally unfucking fair is that? what in the hell kind of question is that, and really how does that pertain to the story.
of course i had to shoot the NBFB a knowing glance and then claim i made no assumptions.
but man am i irate.
Did you tell her you assumed that the biggest bonehead in the story was a no-talent hack who was taking a writing class she had no business being in?
I would’ve.
Sounds like she assumed that you would make racial assumptions … because you’re white.
What a prejudiced nutmonkey.
You might have suggested a nice pair of tongs to assist her in dislodging that stick from her ass.
