what’s so amazing about really deep thoughts?

the wonder geeks were talking about how they had watched and/or listened to the war this weekend. i, however, did not watch the war, because, as you know, i was too busy rearranging and alphabetizing.

sonja, was fascinated with this. mostly, because she’s the most anal and logical and organized person on the face of the earth. so, whenever i exhibit any sort of weird organization bent she listens with rapt attention and joy.

“you know what bothers me the most about the whole system?” i asked.
“the paperbacks next to the hardcovers?” she guessed.
“NO!” i said.
“the short books next to the tall books?”
“no,” i said, “the fiction next to the non-fiction, it drives me nuts.”

i then went into great detail about my old book organization system based on favoritism and six-degrees of seperation. i think that’s when i scared them a little.

me. i scared the wondergeeks. i’m so proud.

I hope, at least, that your method of organization is conducive to actually FINDING the book you need?

I ask only because my wife has our library organized according to the Library of Congress system which, as you may know, makes NO DAMN SENSE AT ALL! If I need to find a book, I have to go to the “card catalog” ( a Filemaker database she created & maintains (and you thought YOU were scary?)), then look by “stack” and “shelf.” Of course, none of the books are labeled or anything (don’t wanna mess up the covers), so it isn’t always easy to track things down. And she’s thinking of making “placeholder cards” to keep in the books and, when you “check one out,” put the card in its place on the shelf so you know where to put it back when you’re done. This is just for the non-fiction, of course. The fiction is mostly still in storage, but I think she’s got some scheme in mind for those, too…

How’s *that* thought for you? 😉

You should organize it autobiographically 🙂
