i am enamoured with my mid-section.
not because it’s fit and hard and all six-packy. nope, i am enamoured with my mid-section because it’s so deliciously, wonderfully brown. mmm, i am the poster child for melanoma. but it’s so pretty. the color is great. when i get tan, i look like burnt sienna. burnt sienna is my very favorite crayola color. i’ve got 6 burnt sienna crayons in my crayon box. i stole them all. i am evil.
so, there are a lot of logistics that go into tanning when you are 6’5″. it’s not as easy as you think. go in, get nekkid, lie in the ultra-violet rays. nooo, it’s not that easy when you’re tall.
first, it doesn’t help that the tannerbabes think you are an idiot. i am not a tanner. i am not a person who aims to have that sunbaked look 365 days a year. i live in minnesota, it looks goofy. so i walk into the tan cabana or cabana tan, i am not sure what it’s called. i go there in a state of utter panic. sisters #2-#4 are all wonderfully, golden brown. gah! i walk into the cabana and cry, “18 days! i have 18 days, make me tan.” then when you proceed to ask 4,326 questions about tanning, they don’t like you. they get snooty when you don’t know what “tingle” is. who in the hell knows what tingle is?
back to the logistics. those tanning beds aren’t made for people 6’5″. there is no way to get the beautiful, all-over tan. either your feet stick out or your forehead sticks out. the beds are too close to the walls, so it’s not like you can scooch down all that much before your feet are planted firmly against the wall. you can’t put your knees up, because then you don’t get the ultimate bakey-goodness because you have to raise the top part of the tanning coffin. so really, there is no way to get that wonderful, even all over bronze.
but man, you get the mid-section good. there, i just looked again. this is about the 54,938th time i’ve looked at my tummy and chest. i’ve got a superman tattoo in the middle of my chest. it looks so damn good. i almost want to take a picture of it!
also, i don’t reccommend the super-star-standing-tanner-2000 or whatever they call it. i really, really would avoid it if you’re over 6-foot tall. it’s insane. it’s a stand-up, bright closet/space capsule thing. you walk into the closet, naked and there are a pair of loops hanging from the ceiling. you are supposed to hold onto these loops, so you can get your pits tanned. after you get over the feeling of being enclosed in a space capsule that is shooting off to mars, the fan starts up. yes, there are two fans. one at your feet that blows air and one at the top of the closest that sucks the air out. i guess it’s for circulation or something. i am sure this totally rules for short people. but then when you are 6’5″, your hair gets sucked up into the top fan. your holding onto the loops, but your arms are too long, so your arms are still bent and you have to rest your head on your left shoulder so that your hair doesn’t all get sucked into the fan.
it’s just bad, bad, bad. but i will have one nicely bronzed chest that will be sticking out of that wretched dress in 11 days. 11 days. wow. i still haven’t found a bra. that’t my goal. a bra. i need to find a bra to rest my lovely bronzed chest in. a bra that’s not going to make me look like the prow of a ship. a bra that will allow me to boogie, ooogie, oogie until i just can’t boogie no more. i believe i have much work to do.

I HAVE A HUUUUUUUGE SPEECH TO DO ON THE BAD THINGS ABOUT TANNING BEDS. IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING EMAIL ME! AND A MESSAGE AT THE BOTTOM: HEY KATE SEND TO LORI. THANKS!
Im a 15 year old girl, and I had just gone tanning for my first time the other day, and it was awesome. The next day I decided to check up on some reading on Tanning beds. One website had an article from doctors talking about Tanning beds. After reading this I never want to go to a tanning bed again, the only reason why I want to go is to get a nice tan, but thats everyones goal right? Well if your goal is also to get any of these:Sunburn
Premature aging of the skin
Skin cancer
Retinal damage
Formation of cataracts
Suppression of the immune system
Damage to the vascular system.
Improper sanitation of tanning devices
After also reading “The reason, in part, is that 25 million people use tanning beds every year. Many of them should avoid the practice — especially if they take certain medications, always burn and never tan, freckle easily, have lots of moles or family history of skin cancer. ”
I check for all those, certain medications make me burn easily and never tan,I freckle easily, and have lots of moles. So Im in high risk of mulitiple problems. The way I looked @ tanning was, hey if gives you a good look, and a reason to die”…now I dont give that one out much, hey maybe ill go a couple times more, but it wont be much. Just take precautions!! Hope I helped

I think the media, only give us one side—the negative—that’s the story right?
Like anything tanning can be abused, however many people use tanning as a health tool.. In fact many people have doctors perscribe tanning for medical reason, and Insurance companies pay for it. Reasons include: Sadd (depression, that many of us suffer from in the winter, also Psoriasis, ( severe dry skin) If are bodies weren’t suppose to have sun—than why were we given the ability to tan???????? the key is definately MODERATION-
Hey, I was reading and I see all of you have asked the questions that I want to know… As w/ everyone else just about, I’m trying to figure out just “how bad” tanning beds are! I thought I saw something on the news the other day about how they aren’t as “bad” as we all thought?? But, I didn’t get to see the whole thing… Anyway, I’m sure yall have all recieved some good info so, email me and let me know! Hopefully I will find out it’s not “that bad” if it’s not abused! And then.. how much is too much!?! Ya know, summer time in TX.. it’s hard to stay out of the sun! :o) Thanks everyone!!
