i’ve just finished up A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You : Stories by Amy Bloom. It’s just as lovely and heartbreaking as the title suggests. a book full of short stories about people in love, dying, in pain. . . it’s just dreamy. it gets high marks from me.
yesterday i was talking with me boss, Sandy. she was telling me about meeting with her thesis advisor at hamline. sandy is in the last stages of getting her MFA in creative writing from hamline university. for her thesis she submitted a poetry manuscript.
sandy’s had a rough week. what with the sorta-demotion what not at work and she wasn’t looking forward to meeting with her advisor and the poet in residence at hamline. but, met with them she did.
her advisor told her it was one of the best books of poetry she’d ever read and that if she were a publisher, she’d publish sandy’s book right now.
the resident poet was amazed and couldn’t believe what poetry sandy was writing at her level. he said she should be applying for grants and spending full time writing.
yay! for her. i was so damn happy to hear it. i was happy to hear it on two levels. . . one because i adore sandy and she deserves this and two because she said, “i thought you’d like to hear it since you’re a writer too.”
yay!
