To Destruction, Dolorean: make no mistake, make no mistake of my intentions. your arms are the place i like the best. i cannot lie to your face. your lips, your skin, your hips or your waist.
i heard this song last night on the way from having dinner wtih my parents and sister #4 (the last of all the birthday hoo-ha), and it caught my ear beause of the hips line and i’m a never-ending quest to get all the songs about hips (beause i have a hip fetish). but then i listend to the lyrics and they knocked me on my back, because i could have written this song yesterday.
Hey Man (now you’re really living), eels: do you know what it’s like to fall on the floor, cry your life out until you got no more?
but it’s better than that opening line. the next line is about making love to a beautiful girl and there are lines about sunsets. this song is fabulous because it talks about the pain and the beauty and all the stuff that makes life worth living.
I’m Going to Stop Pretending That I Didn’t Break your Heart, eels: you see i never thought enough of myself
to realize that losing me could mean something like the tears in your eyes. and i want to tell you i’m sorry and it’s too late to start, but i’m going to stop pretending that i didn’t break your heart
so yeah, can you tell that the eels are my new favorite band? i’m kind of transparent like that.
Madeline and Nine, Mike Doughty: give my eyes just for your intentions. risk my back to impress you now. i?m so joyful that I have found you all?s I need?s is to see you now.
it’s not secret that i have a big, fat fangirl-like crush on mike doughty. i can’t help it, he’s just so cute for a blonde and talented, and a gemini. what’s not to love?
Polyester Bride, Liz Phair: i’m a sucker for your lucky pretty eyes, do you wanna be a polyester bride, do you want to hang your head and die?
i don’t care what anyone says about liz phair being a sellout, i will always love her. love her — even when she’s writing some semi-crappy pop album bullshit. much like cameron crow said that rod stewart should be forgiven all his since for giving the world “maggie may” i believe liz should be forgiven all her sins for giving us “exile in guyville.”
Someone to Pull the Trigger, Matthew Sweet: i need someone to pull the trigger because this whole in my heart is getting bigger, and everything i’ll ever be, i’ve been.
I Though I Knew You, Matthew Sweet: years to figure out that you were never really going to choose and how can i explain the way that i slowly lost my love for you
Dead Flowers, The Rolling Stones: and you can send me dead flowers every morning, send me dead flowers by the mail, send me dead flowers to my wedding, and i forget to put roses on your grave
yeah, it’s my favorite rolling stones song of all-time. even the ‘i’ll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon’ line. i bet you didn’t even know that i had a an all-time favorite rolling stones song. this song, though really kind of depressing, kind of makes me grin like a doof.
I Met a Girl I’d Like to Know Better, Wheat: i met a girl i’d like to know better, but i’m already with someone
i am have always been and will always be the like to know better girl.
ok, this was fun for like 10 minutes, but as is my fickle, fickle nature, i’ve grown bored with it.
other songs for the today’s soundtrack include:
Such Great Heights, The Postal Service
If I can’t Change Your Mind, Sugar
One for My Baby (and one more for the road), Frank Sinatra
Seven Nation Army, The White Stripes
Congratulations on finding Eels (there’s no “the”)!! They’re my new favorite too! “Daisies of the Galaxy” and “Electro-Shock Blues” are unbelievably good albums. The song “Daises of the Galaxy” is lovely and heartbreaking. All of “Electro-Schock Blues” will tear you apart. It’s haunting, gorgeous and amazing. For example:
“Got a sky that looks like heaven. Got an earth that looks like shit. And it?s getting hard to tell where what I am ends, and what they?re making me begins.” — Climbing To The Moon
Just one more… sorry, can’t help myself:
