somehow, someday, somewhere

i give the TTHM lots of flak because he doesn’t likemelikeme. most of the flak comes in the form of snarky comments that fire away in my head.

i should be nicer. because he’s giving me something that’s been so lacking in my life for a long, long time — male companionship. it’s hard sometimes. whenever he talks about the ex he still loves my heart cracks a bit. mostly out of pure envy.

he’s going to see her next week. i’m worried about it. he can tell.

“i’m sorry,” he said. “i didn’t mean to disappoint you.”
“i’m not disappointed,” i said.
“yes you are. your disapoointment is apparent. it’s hanging all over everything. it’s hanging on the walls like treacle.”

i hate that he can read my voice that well. i hate that i can’t hide what i’m thinking/feeling.

but what i love, i love that he would sing me tom waits songs to make me feel better. that he distracts me from the tragedy in my life. tonight i needed him and he called and my laugh rang out like a bell. he cares and that’s what i’ve missed in my life. having a man, physcially in my life, who cares. i used to have gobs of friendboys. but they’ve all moved away or got wives. i can never compete with the wives.

so tonight he sang me tom waits and a little leonard cohen and i think the rolling stones. and it was good.

clearly you have forgotten the brief “Angie” interlude while i was telling you the heart-breaking tale of staggering boredom about not being able to name sister #4.

I have that album!! (john mayall) Been a long time since playing it, wonder if the phono player will even work now. A couple of them I’ve had have just frozen up. It was great listening to it, nice blast from the past.

My fave Mayall album is “Bare Wires.”

Shucks, found Turning Point, put it on the turntable and althougth the player hummed, it wouldn’t move the record. So no rocking. Had to put John on the shelf next to Dave Mason.

Bonny: sounds like we like some of the same things. When I was a freshman in college, the girl across the hall and I were both into music. We thought it would be nice to introduce our dads to some progressive music, since they both appreciated listening to records. She bought her dad the John Mayall album, Turning Point, and I bought my dad a Leo Kottke album, (it had an armadillo on the cover). I don’t think either of our dads appreciated them like we did, but we were reaching out. Congrats on getting published, Ms. Brown!!!

THANK you for noticing, Dweebie! In college, I was a major Paul Butterfield fan. Tom Rush. Blues Project. Then Dire Straits. Then R.E.M. Now, Guy Forsyth & Toni Price.

Paul Butterfield came to our little university in Spokane to play! Saw Tom Rush in Boulder with a fake id. Love all Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler stuff, including his soundtracks and when he plays with Dylan, James Taylor and all those other guys. Yes, REM, really love Automatic for the People, with Jodi’s fav, “Night Swimming”. Haven’t heard of Guy Forsyth & Toni Price, but it sounds like I might like them once I do. I’ll check them out, thanks. 😉

Send me your address, Dweeb, and I’ll send you some music. My old old old old friend Chad Mitchell lives in Spokane, do you know him??

The first part of the entry, about making snarky comments in your head because the guy doesn’t like you the way you like him reminds me so much of myself…except I wasn’t brave enough to tell him and he ended up marrying my good friend. You are so right…you two have a beautiful friendship at the very least and those are mighty rare.
