“How come you don’t have any kids?” Cade was sitting on the blue couch, his Spider-man shoes dangling from his feet.
“Um,” I said. “Because I’m not ready.”
“How come you’re not ready?” Nolan was sprawled out next to his brother, Batman underpants peeking out of his shorts.
“I’m just not,” I said.
“Oh,” Cade said. “I know why. It’s because she doesn’t have a dad for her kids yet.”
“Yeah,” I said.
“So why don’t you get a dad for your kids?” Nolan asked.
“Because I’m not ready,” I said.
“You should get ready,” Cade said.
