Forever in love with those songs

There has been a lot of soul searching and raging debate at Supergenius HQ the past few days. Since I am no longer of the working class, I have been arguing with myself about whether to drop more than $50 on the new Replacementsreissues that are out tomorrow.

I reasoned with myself that I’ve spent far too much money on my little ‘Mats fetish thus far in my life. Between the CDs, the concert tickets, the road trips, the tattoo, the domains, the booze, the bail money — fuck I could probably buy me and you a swank new MacBook for that kind of cash.

Plus, $50+? I could buy groceries for a week, pay the electricity bill, or buy like four books. I was being really quite logical and rational.

But then the fangirl in me took over and screeched “REPLACEMENTS REISSUES” over and over again in a tone that only dogs can hear while rolling on the floor pulling at her hair.

It wasn’t a fair fight at all. And now I am giving thanks to Amazon Prime and hoping the UPS man show up early on Thursday because I will probably jump out of my skin if I have to wait another moment to hear Sorry Ma in all its remastered glory.

Rhino should have sent them your way for review on PaulWesterberg.net. Don’t feel bad, I’m headed out tomorrow to pick them up at my local record store, the one I ditched on Record Store Day for a Nashville store (where the Silver Jews’ David Berman signed a copy of his book of poetry, the main reason I drove a couple of hours instead of a couple of minutes).

Rhino ignored my pleas and outright begging. I tried, I really did!

I’m just as bad. I’ve got two copies of each R.E.M. album they’ve released in “funny” cases. Plus this last go-round, I downloaded and purchased the new album. (But in my defense, the packaging is AWESOME!)

Save your money and get them from a friend! Or, alternatively, buy them used. I sold mine back to Reckless the day after I bought it.
