Twitter makes disaster a little easier to bear

A very heavily-trafficked bridge that cuts through Minneapolis over the Mississippi River collapsed during rush hour today [Good Ol’ MN Speak has the latest]. I have never been so thankful for Twitter in my life. Ever.

From what I can tell, most of my people are okay. There are a few stragglers I am worried about and if I don’t get any response from them soon I am going to freak the fuck out.

But my sisters and parents are okay, and well, so am I.

is it safe to say paul , chris and their families are safe? i live in CA so that’s the first thing i thought about when i heard about this tragedy.

To be honest, I don’t know. Paul doesn’t drive, so he’s got that going for him.

But local news aren’t reporting on any injured rockstars.

I’m not sure if it’s crazy that I don’t know you, other than reading your blog almost daily for the last 6 years, and yet when I saw what happened on http://www.news.com.au I came here right away to make sure you and your family were okay.

    And I’m glad you are.

Thank you. The whole thing is just mind-numbing.

Ditto, Karen. My husband’s watching the Cubs game and I happened to see a short news brief on the bridge break. My mind started going “Minneapolis? Minnesota? I better go check iwilldare!” And yeah, we’re total strangers. Funny how the interweb connects people. Glad you and yours are all ok. What a heartbreaking tragedy.

Double ditto for Lori and Karen. I only even know you exist, really, because I mooched a book from you on BookMooch. When I saw the news on the elevator this morning, my very first thought was “I hope Jodi’s okay.”

Here, here. I wasnt that much of a believer in twitter before yesterday when, emails, IMs and Twitter was the only way let my friends know that I was ok and what happend.
