Yum was all he said

On Thursday we workshopped Kelly’s short story “Ashes.” It was, of course, really fucking good. Seriously. I’m not just saying that because it was Kelly’s either.

It’s this story about this woman who is trying to get pregnant. She lives in a teeny Minnesota town and it’s her family’s job to make this special hotdish when anyone dies. It’s family tradition handed down to the women of each generation. Anyway, which the woman can’t get pregnant she gets a request to bake ol’ Ma Jorgenson’s ashes into the hotdish.

I KNOW.

So once again we’re going around the room saying the good things about the story when we get to Huey (formerly known as as yet unnicknamed funny red-haired guy).

“On word review,” he said. “YUM!”

And the class burst out laughing for at least five minutes. Incidentally, he earned the nickname Huey because his first ever concert was Huey Lewis and the News. How kick ass is that?
