Lockdown anxiety

I spent last night at Sister #2’s eating take out Chinese and hanging. It was a lot of fun. Jaycie and Max showed me all the books they wanted from the latest book order and we spent a lot of time talking about Beverly Cleary books.

As bedtime approached they started talking about the next school day. Apparently they were having a ‘lockdown’ drill that was causing much anxiety.

Jaycie explained that it’s a drill the school has in case an intruder comes into the school. My mind boggled that they even had to have such an exercise. It’s not like the good old days like when I was in school and any random stranger could wander the halls. Sister #2 spent a lot of time reassuring them that it would be fine and their teachers would tell them what they had to do.

“Aunt Jodi,” Max said. “Do you think they’ll have a real intruder there?”
“No,” I said. “Do they start the school on fire for your fire drills?”
You could see the realization of what that meant come over his face. “Oh yeah. You’re so smart.”

Do you know what an awesome mom you’re going to be someday? Seriously. I want my fetus to have an aunt like you! What are you doing next March? Wanna move to the Land of Lincoln? What?! Why not!?!

Congrats on the fetus! How excited are you?

Only over the moon! The best part is my husband’s reaction. He talks to the baby every night, even though it doesn’t technically have ears yet. (We just celebrated our 10-year anniversary, so this has been a long time coming. I think that exponentially increases our enthusiasm). I love when you post about your niece and nephews, but it makes it even harder to vote for the boy / girl debate.
