The Fortress of Solitude is not quite complete. Hell, it’s barely close to complete. In the bright light of yesterday’s morning, I noticed the walls looked less like an Antique Photograph and more like a school picture where someone had wet the corner by licking their finger and then scratched the year in the emulsion with a ballpoint pen.
So I slapped on another coat of brown paint, took apart the soon to be an actual dining room table again desk, and then sat in the comfy green chair for an hour and a half under the guise of waiting for IKEA to bring tthe 6’7″ twin bookcase towers of power, but really just sitting there day dreaming and listening to music.
Then I had to go to the grocery store, eat dinner, and watch The Simpsons for an hour.
Only then was I ready to tackle the assembly of the 6’7″ twin bookcase towers of power. I approached that task with great trepidation, the last time I had assembled an IKEA bookcase, I ended up with a slight concussion and more rage then the entire town of Prior Lake could handle.
I am happy to report that last night’s assembly went much better. There was no bodily harm done, though there was a shit-ton of cursing going on after I discovered that I had put all the shelves in backwards on case #2. But even that’s better than a concussion, so I can’t complain so much.
Now I just have to load in everything that was packed up, put the desk together, attend a barbecue, haul all the non-fiction upstairs, do laundry, shower, and watch Day of Our Lives. This will be my busiest Independence Day ever.
Which bookcases did you get? I can’t remember which styles come that height aside from the Billy ones, which we have. I love IKEA!
