i had to take the short bus to work today. sister #2 had to borrow ruby to deliver a bed to someone. since she drive a crapalier which nobdoy over midget status can comfortably drive, i got stuck with sister #4’s short bus.
i had to drop off ruby at 8ish this morning. i was, of course, 20 minutes late. as sister #2 and i loaded the bed into the back of ruby, i hear max shout from inside the house “THE TIME IS NOW!”
then jaycie comes crashing into the garage dressed in head to toe pink attached to a pink Hello Kitty! backpack. she stops abruptly and starts doing a weird hip-shaking hula type dance while chanting “it’s time to go to the bus stop! it’s time to go to the bus stop!”
max then joins us in the garage wearing jeans that entirely too short for him and a faded orange bob the builder t-shirt.
“i told you the time had come,” he said.
“do you do this every morning?” i asked, not sure my voice would work before 9:30 a.m.
“nope, just one special morning,” jaycie said.
“what’s so special about this morning?” i asked.
“you’re here!”
Everytime I read one of these stories of Max and Jaycie I get a huge smile on my face. Kids really are the ultimate toy. And I want one of my own that much more.
