sister #2 dropped by the workplace to switch ruby for the short bus, she had max in tow and we decided to go out to lunch, though it had to be something quick because max had to be to school by one.

since max is almost six and the pickiest eater this side of 494, he got to pick where we ate. despite my protests that when i was almost six i never got to pick anything but my nose, he still won. and he picked McDonalds.

he also decided that he was riding with me in ruby and not with his mom in the short bus.

as we were driving to McDonalds, i asked him about school.

“so you gotta go to school today?” i asked.
“yeah, we’re probably gonna play ‘doggy doggy where’s your bone’.”
“is it fun?”
“yeah it’s pretty fun someone has to go in the middle and guess where we hid the bone.”
“where do you hide the bone?”
“usually behind someone’s fingers. AAAHHHH!!!”
“what’s the matter?” i asked.
“there’s a bug on the window.”
“yeah, but it’s a lady bug. it can’t hurt you.”
“i don’t want it to pee on me.”
“i don’t think lady bugs pee on people.”
“it happened to my friend chris,” he said.
“i think chris is full of it.”
“full of what?”
“lies,” i said.
“no, it happened at the pumpkin farm.”
“you went to a pumpkin farm?” i asked.
“it was peter’s pumpkin patch,” he said.
“where’s that?”
“on the other side of shakopee.”
“oh.”
“yeah and a lady bug landed on chris and then he peed.”
“chris peed?”
“aunt jodi!” he said in that hoarse exasperated you are too stupid to be able to drive a truck voice. “the lady bug, he peed.”
“can lady bug’s pee?”
“chris said it peed.”
“so if this lady bug pees on you, you can just wash your hands,” i said.
“i think that’s what chris did, but i don’t see a sink here.”
“they have sinks at McDonalds.”
