after four straight listens, i turned off the paul cds. i needed a break. now i’m listening to:
i so want to be a cute musicgeek when i grow up. i wish i could pull that off, but i’m too musically clueless to do it. mostly i take any and all suggestions on music from people far cooler than i.
what are you listening to?

songs that make me want to cry.
which ones? which ones? i love songs that make me cry.
of course the only one i can think of at the moment is neil young’s “long may you run.”
“to make you feel my love” and “thirteen” used to make me cry, but i reclaimed them. good songs should not be wasted on shitty men. you know?
Country, mostly.
very interestin’ UH, why country?
I don’t know. It just makes me feel more comfortable lately. Not just any country, though, it has to be old country.
comfortable how? like comfortable in your own skin or in your mind? what do you mean?
You know the feeling you get on a cold weekend morning when you’re lying in bed under a ton of blankets and comforters and you’re just snug and warm and happy? That’s the comfortable I mean. Lately, old country music has made me feel like that.
oh yes! i know what you mean. i wonder what kind of music makes me feel that kind of comfortable, i’ll have to think about it.
the replacements make me feel like i’m wearing clothes that make me feel sexxy and confident and ok in my own skin with cute hair comfortable.
paul westerberg makes me feel comfortable with my inherent, unending, longing.
soul coughing makes me comfortable with my inner wantoness and shaking hips.
dido – white flag
michelle branch – goodbye to you

counting crows – a long december
oasis – champagne supernova

have you ever listened to any alex chilton? i’d find it hard to believe you haven’t since i know what a fan paul is. well, thirteen was originally his song (though wilco does an absolutely tear-wrenching version as well), and much of alex’s music and the music of big star still moves me.
oh yeah, and wilco. love the stuff. 🙂 rock on.
robin, i never travel far without a little big star! his is my favorite version of thirteen though i must admit i love wilco’s version and elliott smith’s isn’t too shabby either.
as for wilco. . . i volunteered to have jeff tweedy’s illegitimate lovechild but he never took me up on the offer.
jodi:
i thought so! i love love love jeff tweedy musically, but as a fellah, well, i don’t think he’s the nicest. don’t know this for sure, just think so by watching him on stage. wilco’s version just makes me cry cry cry. i just listened to elliot smith’s version and it is lovely. his fate, of course makes it extra sad.
love you, love your show by the way. long time listener, first time caller.
robin
yeah, he doesn’t seem so nice, but it’s the talent, i can’t stop myself.
have you seen the wilco movie?

There’s so much Wes because, well, I have over a gig of just his stuff. I’d be glad to trade you a Wes mix for a Paul mix–I’m really only familiar with “Dyslexic Heart” and I’d like to get more, but I have no idea where to start.
Just one:
“Windfall” from Son Volt’s Trace CD.
