here’s my latest dilemma, the plural of hi, is it his? or is it hi’s (which would seem possessive) or is it some odd thing like hi-s? or what, because they all look pretty damn goofy to me and are you just to assume that from context your reader will know that his is the plural of hi and not really just his?

I like “hi”s
That’s exactly what I was going to say.
It has to be his. Hi’s would be possessive (see the comic strip “Hi and Lois” for examples). Anyone reading for context who would mistake a plural hi for a masculine possessive is an asshat anyway.
i was going to say “well, it is hellos, it shoudl be his” then i realized that hellos looks really weird. helloes? hies? damn, now i’m all confuzzled.
