in class tonight we had to tell a little bit about ourselves and why we were taking the class and what we wanted to get out of it. most of the people had very noble and creative things to say and stuff. one lady said she wanted to add more tools to her toolbox. which made me laugh uproariously inside, since i have to use the word tools all the time at work and i generally hate it.

anyway i said, “i’m a copywriter for a software company, like many of you i work in marketing. i took this class so i can use the words they won’t let me use at work. they are always telling me, ‘you can’t say that!’ i want to use all the words.”

and the teacher laughed.

i didn’t tell them that i took the class because the thought of it scared the piss out of me and i need that more often in my life. i took the class because i need to write and i don’t know where to start anymore. i took the class because i’m tried of regaling my co-workers with the stories i make up about the secret lives of our other co-workers, i need new regalees. i took the class because the thought of spending the entire summer by myself makes me want to cry. i took the class to meet people who might be a bit more like me and like to read and write. i took the class because i didn’t know what else to do.
