mulholland drive for the anonymous commenter

DON’T READ THIS IF YOU HAVE ANY INTENTIONS OF SEEING LYNCH’S MULHOLLAND DRIVE. . . YOU’VE BEEN WARNED. . . THE OWLS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM

the way i see it the dead lady was diane/betty she pretty much wanted to die after having camilla/rita offed, don’t you think? that’s what i think. i’m not sure about the two doofy guys in the diner. i kinda interpreted it as betty/diane’s fear of offing camilla, living without her what have you and facing that fear (the way the doofy guy had to face the man behind the wall) no matter what the consequences.

i’m not sure how the whole movie thing tied into it, probably representing all of diane/betty’s failed hopes and dreams. plus by having all those strange men pulling the strings it’s like diane/betty’s failure wasn’t really her fault but the whole movie business against her.

all i have to say is i sure as hell was creeped out by the midget man that sat in the room and listened to everything (i think it was the same backwards talking midget from twin peaks).

betty/diane was on the call chain because she was the one paying to have camilla/rita killed.

i think the whole point of the preformance was about how it was all taped, how what diane/betty was living through was all done she could not change the outcome. does that make sense? perhaps the silencio was her subconscious’ way of trying to silence the thoughts, maybe?

i saw the old people as diane/betty’s youthful hope sorta. that’s why they cackled maniacally after they dropped her off in LA, like hahaha, she’s a goner. sort of a cynical thing and when they reappeared at the end of the movie it was her innocence taunting her.

at least that’s the way i saw it all. any questions?

i love you! you are my new hero. thanks a bazillion. i am way too lazy to look things up and i’d be too embarassed to ask people (hence my heavy cloak of anonymity). did you really get all that on your first viewing? my first viewing ended with me throwing piles of shoes at the tv. and then i immediately rewound and watched again, repeatedly yelling “you make no sense!” i still liked it, though. go figure.

one other question: if it was the blond girl’s dream, why were parts of it in the p.o.v. of the director, like the pool man scene? and what was up with that neighbor? why would they trade apartments? and why would blondie have her dishes? and this isn’t a question, but it was so cute when that man spit out the coffee. and this is a question: wasn’t it?

I think Betty and Rita were one and the same person as the result of a head injury during the car accident. But who was dreaming who is left for the viewer to decide.

Who the hell was the cowboy though?!

I saw Mulholland Drive all by myself – which isn’t to say that I went by myself. I mean I had the WHOLE theater to myself. Which intensified the spookyness. I swear, Lynch is telepathic and can reach into my mind and pull out elements of my worst nightmares.

Geez, I’m just thinking about this while I’m writing after seen Mulholland Drive months ago, and I’m creeping myself out just before bed – stupid.
