today, i’d have to say “It’s Your Love” by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. When I think of romantic songs, I think of ones that make my heart feel like I’m in love – that song does it. And I don’t even like country!
Romantic? I’m not sure. The two sweetest love songs of all time, however, are Someone Who Needs Me by Stevie Wonder and God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. Yes.
“Good” by Morphine. It’s not terribly romantic, but what it lacks in sap, it makes up by being the best damn sexy song ever. Best sad romantic song is by Randy Newman. I’m not sure it’s been release yet, but it’s sad and perfect and romantic as hell. It’s called “I’m Sorry”. I saw it on Sessions at West 54th and almost cried, it was so beautiful.
I forgot one! “Painted From Memory” sung by Cassandra Wilson on the Painted From Memory album (all the songs from the Bacharach/Costello album interpreted by Frisell). She adds some wicked pain to the song and just pulls some great things out of the song that seem to be missing in Elvis’s version.

“The first time ever I saw your face”,I’d have to say…especially the concert version with the lyrics:…And the first time ,ever I lay with you…that can’t be heard on the studio recording

Triple-Dog Dare Ya to Beat this one –
Fantastic That’s You – Louis Armstrong
This song is not only the first dance song from my wedding, but also bookmarks great memories from our life together…
FANTASTIC THAT’S YOU
You look at me and then a song begins
Played on a million velvet violins
My head goes reelin’ and around it spins
Fantastic, fantastic, that’s you, yes
You whisper “Darling” and before my eyes
A blaze of fireworks light up the skies
My heart grows wings then away it flies
Fantastic, fantastic, that’s you
You perform miracles whenever you hold me near
Tender, warm miracles that make me surrender dear, yes
And when you kiss me heaven opens wide
And there you are inviting me inside
No wonder angels that have staring eyes ???
Fantastic, fantastic, that’s you
Yes, and when you kiss me heaven opens wide
And there you are inviting me inside
No wonder angels that have staring eyes ???
Fantastic, fantastic, that’s you

I have like 3500 songs on my computer and the most romantic one ive heard is ‘Friends Like Us’ by Randy Travis and Beth Nielsen. Might be hard to get hold of though.

I have to say “Kissing You” by Des’ree is the saddest and most evocative love song. It is unreal how sad it is… your heart just breaks. It’s a beautiful song to listen to.

the way you look tonight, definitely. also, the sky is broken by moby and heartless by danny frye for off-the-beaten-path romantics — the lyrics themselves are not traditionally romantic but you recognize the feeling when you hear the songs.
anything sinatra … ‘the way you look tonight.’

hmm.. that’s a hard one.. though one of my faves is “wonderful tonight” by eric clapton.. that song makes me melt..
if “wonderful tonight” didn’t still make me burst into tears every time i hear it, i’d vote for it.
“Lady In Red” by Chris DeBurgh, I would have to say.
“Good” by Morphine. It’s not terribly romantic, but what it lacks in sap, it makes up by being the best damn sexy song ever. Best sad romantic song is by Randy Newman. “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. Undoubtedly sends the shivers up and down my body whenever i hear it!
mm.. I was gonna say that one, too, Heather. *nods*
Dream A Little Dream of Me
hmm.
Ride, “Vapour Trail”
or something much better that i’m forgetting.
So many songs are running through my head right now… I think the most notable is “Only You” by Yaz.
Tie between “You Send Me” by Sam Cooke and “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers.
“Good” definately gets it for sexy song. I’m partial to “The Ship Song” by Nick Cave for most romantic, though.
