if anyone is wondering, the movie American Psycho is as stinky as the novel.
every time christian bale speaks he sounds like a gameshow host. i don’t think bateman would have sounded like a game show host. actually, the movie is way stinkier than bret easton ellis’ novel. i guess it’s supposed to be a black comedy. it’s not funny. i get it. i “get” what the book/movie was supposed to be about. i understand how bateman is supposed to represent the decadence and soullessness of the 80s, how his friends’ apathy feeds bateman’s psychosis. but c’mon, this is crap. i guess i don’t like movies that feel the need to bludgeon me with a point.
the only comic relief of the movie is listening to bateman explain the musical signigicance of whitney houston, phil collins and huey lewis. but the rest isn’t funny. bateman’s beauty regime. . . *yawn.* his clique’s desire to get into the best restaurants. . . boring! and the petty “who has the best business card” is just lame.
blech!
i also rented terry gilliam’s “brazil.” i am hoping it’s much better.
