For Fuck’s Sake

Fasten your seat belt from the first page to the very last Robert Lasner’s ‘For Fuck’s Sake’ is a bumpy, bumpy ride. At first it’s quite hard to follow the willy nilly writing style of Lasner but once you catch the rhythm of his writing it’s damn hard not to be charmed.

Fuck follows the misadventures of the character aptly named Robert Lasner on his quest for love, life, and liver damage. Lasner drinks his way through New Orleans (Nawlins, New Whore Screams, and a host of other rad nicknames he gives the city), Philadelphia, and Winnesota (a frozen tundra between Minnesota and Wisconsin near the Canadian border with twin cities called St. Snore and Winneapolis).

Robert finds himself in one love mishap after another from the Lesbian bartender ALP he discovers in New Orleans to the bisexual Nancy he lures to Philadelphia to the married, but oh-so-perfect Mona. The Roberts (the character and the author) are at their best when the novel gets lost in Robert’s obsessing about his current state of affairs and bemoaning the loves of his life.

The title should be fair warning that this book isn’t for the faint of heart. Hopefully it will keep the easily offended away, because inside there are plenty of hilarious, and dead-on descriptions of all sorts of debauchery.

Really, this book is a trip. It’s one of those things you have to experience to totally understand. If you’re willing to invest to time getting into the groove of Lasner’s prose, you will be handsomely rewarded. I promise.
