And warm the lover’s glass like friendly wine

The perfect song for today, a cold, gray Monday is “California Stars.” You know, the one from the Wilco & Billy Bragg set of Woody Guthrie songs. Even perfecter than perfect is if you could get your hands on this live version that I’m listening to (which I think I got from Wolfdogg, and is from a First Ave show last fall, but I could be wrong). It’s just Jeff Tweedy and nobody else, and it’s got this wonderful part where the audience starts singing the song. When you hear that part you just know the goosebumps you’re getting are from the beauty of the song and not from the cold air outside.

Of course, it somehow feels a little wrong that in my ‘Fall into You’ playlist, this song comes after the dirty version of Sexy back.

I got to hear “California Stars” live a few months ago. Pure bliss.
