When you aren’t even paying attention Bob Dylan will come in and decimate you

Here’s the thing about Bob Dylan. You can just be minding your own business with background music pumping out of Kathleen Turner Overdrive, editing some propaganda, and then next thing you know he’s decimated you, when you least expect it.

I was hardly even paying attention to the song, it’s one of those 7-minuters that I have no attention span for. But I made the mistake of digging in my bag for some gum, and managed to catch the line “Last night I danced with a stranger, But she just reminded me you were the one.”

Gah!

It always amazes me that someone like me can be so moved by lost love lyrics. I’ve never been in any real kind of love like that so you think I wouldn’t even care about such things as melancholy songs about people who have lost the one. Hell, I can’t even find one for right now. But I do care about those songs, oh how I do. I envy people with their lost loves, and that line of Dylan’s just brought me to my knees.
