Four years ago today I lost my last “real” job. I was a victim of the Epic Advertising Industry Fail of 2009. When I was laid off I said I would coast through the summer on savings and get a real job in the fall. That fall has yet to arrive.
I had about 8 things I was going to say about the beauty of freelancing and sleeping until you want to get up and a cube-free life, but I got a lot of work to do at the moment, which in the world of freelancing is a thing of glory.
So, here’s to making it through another summer before I have to get a real job.

Gads. Has it been four years already?! Congratulations and happy anniversary. And thanks for turning me on to Kelly Barnhill. I just recently finished reading The Mostly True Story of Jack (which i LOVED) and Iron Hearted Violet (which i liked tremendously). I’m still waiting for YOUR books. I know you have ’em in you. :o)
You’re welcome! Kelly is one of my very favorite writers — all her words are magical.
As for me, I’m working on a novel right now. For reals this time. 48,491 words thus far!
Thanks for the congrats!
Congratulations! It takes initiative and lots of self motivation to work for one’s self. Sometimes being laid off can be the best thing that can happen.
Thank you! One of these days I hope that motivation morphs into the cleaning the house and/or exercising kind of motivation. That would rule.
Congratulations! On the Anniversary AND the novel. What a journey, huh?
