Trilogy meter
I know, I know. That’s what started the whole mess this afternoon. I got called a nerdblasphemer.
Let’s tackle these one at a time:
* You don?t know it?s insulting to confuse Star Wars with Star Trek
-Would you be insulted if someone confused The Replacements with Soul Asylum? Or Raymond Carver with Raymond Chandler? Maybe insulting is a strong word, but still…
* You haven?t actually seen Star Wars or Star Trek
-You’re simply depriving yourself. What else can I say? (Now when you say you’ve never seen Star Trek, do you mean you haven’t seen the movies or you haven’t even seen an episode of ANY of the various TV series? If it’s the latter, I highly recommend you check out Star Trek: The Next Generation. It really was a pretty bad ass show.)
* You think Back to the Future is the best trilogy ever
-Fair. I’m a big fan of them too.
* You didn?t watch Lord of the Rings
-You should. They’re fun. Especially the first one.
* Because you hated reading The Hobbit in 8th grade
-The Lord of the Rings books are very, very different in tone and style from The Hobbit. If it was the fairy-taleish, whimsical tone of the The Hobbit that turned you off, give the LOTR books a shot. You might be surprised. If, however, you just didn’t dig a book about wizards and elves, well then you probably won’t like the rest either. (FYI, be forewarned that they’re actually making 2 new LOTR movies including The Hobbit.)
Perhaps you owe it to your fellow nerds to invest a little time in that stuff so you can better understand where they are coming from. You know, walk in their shoes a little. It would be the unselfish thing to do.
Also, Star Trek 2 – Wrath of Kahn is probably the greatest film ever. Montalban’s (sp?) performance is legendary, prosthetic tits and all. And considering the guy passed away recently, I think everyone owes him for that.
Just don’t admit that at work.
great post….making me giggle
