The little green one

One of my favorite parts of Tibble-infested Wednesdays comes right after nap time. Liam always wakes up before Nolan. Without fail he grabs his deetee (his blanket), climbs into my lap, and asks if we can watch Yo Gabba Gabba.

While I scroll through my DVR, I sing “Gabba gabba we accept you, we accept you one of us.”
“That’s not a bad song,” Liam says.
“No, that’s a good song,” I say. “It’s The Ramones.”

We spend a lot of time lately discussing good songs and bad songs. Good songs according to Liam include Prince’s “Batdance,” Weezer’s “Pork & Beans,” Paul Westerberg’s “Whatever Makes You Happy,” Cheap Trick’s “Surrender,” and “Harry Belafonte Jr.’s “Jump in the Line.” Bad songs include Brooks & Dunn’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” The Kooks’ “She Moves in Her Own Way,” and The Replacements’ “Left of the Dial.”

Anyway, Wednesday afternoons you can find me watching Yo Gabba Gabba with a three-year-old in my lap. While I generally dislike most kid shows, I really enjoy this one. Mostly because I love Brobee, the little green one. Brobee reminds me of a sweater I had in college, a sweater we dubbed the Kurt Cobain sweater (as not to be confused with the couch sweater). I really loved that sweater and it makes me feel all tender and nostalgic whenever Brobee comes on the screen.

Plus, there’s a robot, and y’all know how I feel about robots. And there’s DJ Lance who dresses in orange, and lots of music and dancing. The show is pretty awesome and the episodes we’ve watched have included The Shins, The Ting Tings, and Biz Markie. On a kids’ show. It’s pretty great, you should watch it.

“Yo Gabba Gabba” is well-loved at my house. At first I thought it was going to be the worst kids show ever, but it’s pretty awesome.

Clara Jane loves the yellow robot, because she loves all robots.

In the U.K., DJ Lance has a really deep voice.

Have you downloaded the soundtrack to “Yo Gabba Gabba” yet from iTunes (it came out this past Tuesday)? I would send you my promo, but I have already passed it on to my young nieces.

I had no idea the soundtrack was out at all. I’ll have to give it a spin the next time the Tibbles are over.
