Happy 2nd Currentiversary

Today marks the second anniversary of the second best thing to ever happen to me musically. Two years ago today 89.3 The Current was unleashed on the airwaves.

Though I am not nearly as giddy in love as I was in the beginning. I still love The Current, only with much more maturity.

I could spend all day listing the radio station’s virtues. But instead, I will point to one thing that demonstrates its radness best. Since The Current is a public radio station (that’s right, no commercials) they have to do fund drives a few times a year. As any listener of public radio knows (or watcher of public TV) these member drives can be kind of a drag. But this isn’t true with The Current. In fact, when the DJs get together to beg for dollars, its my favorite time of the year! Seriously the DJs are so smart and so funny, that it’s kind of a joy to listen.

Just like last year, I thought I would share with you some of the best in-studio performances from last year. Of course, if you are so inclined you can take a gander at all The Current’s in-studio performances.

Best of 2006:

Is it sad that I’ve never heard of any of them?

Well, not exactly, I have heard of the Drive-By Truckers, but have never heard any of their music.

Do they ever play any Mudvayne, Wolfmother, or Spineshank?

Hey Jodi, before I read the above, I had just checked out the KT Tunstall’s Acoustic Extravaganza cd from the library at lunchtime. It’s after dinner now, and I was looking at the cd not more than five minutes ago and saw that it has a dvd as well. Then I came in to see your praise of The Current.

I learned about KT from our radio station, KUNC.org, from Greeley, Colorado. I love it too, isn’t public radio cool?
