My stomach and I are no longer on speaking terms. I’ve decided that if it doesn’t feel better tomorrow then I will remove it myself with a clean spoon. I have no time for this stomach-achey bullshit.
In my weakened conditioned I have fallen under the spell of this cover of Paul Abdul’s “Straight Up.”
Yeah, I was reading through Torontoist’s fabulous Cover Song Catalog (sorry Canucks I cannot abide that U). I’m sort of a dork when it comes to well-done (and sometimes even not so well done cover songs). They’ve got a whack of good covers there, including one of my personal faves, The Postal Service’s cover of Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds.” That one’s wracked up over 50 listens according to my iTunes. You really should check it out. I’m on my way to listen to Damien Rice cover Prince’s “When Doves Cry” which will probably not kick the ass of The Eels’ cover of “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man,” but it’s worth a shot.
k.d. lang’s cover of Hallelujah (on that page you linked) knocked my socks off.
Oooh – I’m going to have to go shopping on iTunes later for some of those. The Against All Odds cover is one, but there are some other gems up there. Thanks!
Thanks for that link!
I love the kd lang one too. She has the best voice.
I heart covers. Have you ever heard Cake’s version of “I will survive” or The Cardigans’ “Ironman”? Classic. 🙂
Yes I have! My favorite Cake cover, however, is their cover of Kenny Rogers’ “Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Town.”
I’m just now watching this and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how happy a cover of any Paula Abdul song makes me, especially when done by a dorky white boy.
