There’s nothing that makes the sudden onslaught of stomach cancer (that’s what I’ve decided my persistant stomachache is, even though it’s much better today than it was yesterday) easier to deal with than a new Paul Westerberg record. I am giddy and smiling stupidly, because this Open Season Soundtrack is mostly filled with really fun songs that make you smile. There’s a few melancholy-sounding heartbreakers, and the utterly devestation “Good Day” but you can skip over those if you aren’t brave or in the mood to have your heartbroken.
So far my favorite song is “Better than This” purely for the line “I’m your knight in shining arm chair.” God, I love Paul Westerberg. If you could see me right now, you’d see that I have this shitty, doofy crush grin going on.
What makes me most excited about this record, is that it’s the soundtrack to a cartoon movie. Cartoon movie songs are Max’s favorite things on earth. So really, I am going to use this soundtrack as the gateway drug to making Max love everything Westerbergian.
I will make him a Westernerd, only to annoy the shit out of Bob Mould-loving Sister #2. I’d work on Jaycie, but she’s so far gone down the Dixie Chicks/Hannah Montana path that she’s kind of a hopeless cause until she rebels at 12.
I’m 34 and I’m getting goofy over a record. I think I might not be right in the head.
Must be brain cancer in addition to the stomach cancer, then.
when i die, my ghost will break iwilldare.com in IE and you will have to scroll to read my postings from beyond the grave.
I got a shuddery little thrill the other night when I realized – hey! I can take Clara Jane to see the movie, which she’ll love, and the soundtrack won’t make me want to poke my eardrums with scissors!
i just bought the new sparklehorse, tim easton, and bonnie “prince’ billy cd’s today. if there is something wrong with being goofy over new cd’s in you early 30’s, well…. as they say, i don’t want to be right.
There’s nothing wrong with getting goofy over music in your late 30s either =P
I think I heard about this a while ago but forgot. Glad I saw you mention it I’ll have to check it out.
LATE 30s? LATE 30s? Lou, I really am gonna kick your ass. I’m only 34, dude I’m not even in mid-30s.
Sheesh.
Yes but I am now 38 which clearly qualifies as “late” =P
But I double dog dare you to even try it!
I just got the 10″ vinyl that has only the Westerberg songs from the soundtrack – including 2 versions that aren’t on the official soundtrack. I would totally recommend it – especially to you Jodi…
