* The credit for the awesome title of this post goes to Aden, there has been no better title for a review of Clerks 2 that I have seen.
There aren’t many movies I’m willing to go see in at the movie theater. 2+hour movies + my ADD = a bad time. So it’s only very special movies that I’ll go see. Clerks 2 is one of them. Most anything by Kevin Smith (except for the insufferable Jersey Girl) is movie-theater worthy.
I have to admit that the original Clerks was not the Kevin Smith movie to win my heart. In fact, I had never even heard of the movie when Mallrats came out. But I had to see Mallrats the instant it came out because it had my all-time favorite skatepunk Jason Lee in it. I remmeber dragging a friend to the movie and he was less than thrilled. “We’re going to go see a movie about going to the mall because some skateboarder is in it?” Duh.
A lot of my friends were surprised by my excitment over the new Smith movie. Apparently, I seem to ‘haughty’ to dig such lowbrow entertainment. But come on, I love a good dick or fart joke as much as the next person. In fact, next to the word wussy, I think the phrase ‘suck my dick’ is the funniest thing ever.
So essentially, I loved Clerks 2. I could have used a lot more Jay and Silent Bob, but there is so much Randal that it more than makes up for their minor roles. This sequel didn’t feel Sell-Outty to me at all. In fact I thought it was a most fitting end to the whole Askewniverse series of movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). My biggest complaint was the nepotistic casting of Smith’s wife as Dante’s fiancee. Yeah, Mrs. Smith is not so good with the acting.
But aside from that, the movie is hilarious. I am sitting here giggling at my desk just remembering some of the scenes.
My favorite part was when Randal who works at Mooby’s is giving shit to his teenage coworker, Elias, about being a virgin. Elias says that he would have sex with his girlfriend if it wasn’t for her pussy troll. He then goes on to explain to an absolutely horrified Randal, about how girls’ parents put trolls in their pussies so they don’t have sex (the girls eventually pee out the troll when they’re 21, according to Elias). Because the troll will bite off any penis that dares enter the sacred vessel. Elias’ girlfriend’s pussy troll is called PillowPants.
God, I hope everyone I know goes to see this movie so I can have someone to talk about this with. If you’ve seen Clerks, you should totally go see Clerks 2 RIGHT NOW.
I SAW IT LAST NIGHT!
i loved it so much.
the Pillow Pants scene was the best ever, because it was the only time, like ever, that Randall didn’t have anything to say.
We are still giggling over it, and we saw it on Friday! Of course I was told by Jade we will be seeing it at least four more times this week!
I’ve never seen a Kevin Smith movie.
How uncouth is that?
I knew you were haughty, but I thought it was spelled H-O-T-T-I-E.
Hee hee.
We saw it on Friday night — LOVED IT!
It was a bit rough in patches, but I think that’s a trademark of Smith’s movies. However, Randal and Jay totally made up for the suckiness. Jamie and I haven’t stopped laughing. I want to try and sneak out to see it again this weekend, but we’re going to the Counting Crows concert on Saturday, so it’ll have to be next week. *pout* I never thought I’d rather see a movie instead of the Crows…
I loved the pussy troll scene, but I thought the movie was no where near as good as the original Clerks. Most of the jokes were for pure shock value. The first Clerks had something to say.
And I loved “Jersey Girl.”
