Apparently, Mr. Doughty & I are watching the same Heavy Metal programs on VH1. Last week I stunned Al, the cutest girl on earth™ and Seamus by announcing that not only was Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” the #1Heavy Metal video of all time, but back in like 1973 Ozzy was a babe. To which Seamus asked, “A Jodi babe or a normal person babe?”
So El Doughty de Delectables, writes about his love of Heavy Metal, the kind of love only adolescent boys seem to be able to generate for music, and then he name checks St. Paul Westerberg:
Rob Halford, Vince Neil, and Bruce Dickinson were like outcast heroes, standing against a world of Reaganite conformity (and believe me, growing up among the military at West Point, I knew something about conformity, not to mention deeply buried anguish, and post-traumatic stress disorder). They were the superhero versions of what Paul Westerberg came to mean to me; figures of anger and angst.
Mike Doughty says Rob Halford = superhero version of Paul Westerberg.
I feel validated.
