tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies

“you’re late,” sister #2 said as soon as i walked into sister #4’s house.
“it’s like 6:32,” i said.
“yeah but we’re hungry.”
“i didn’t know that i had to be early just because you were hungry,” i said.
“oh!” she shouted. “you have got to stop lying to my kids.”
“what?”
“you lied to them about something and they’ve been bugging me about it all day.”
“what?”
max jumped up and stood in front of me. “mom said that the world was always in color.”
“what?” i said.
“they said you told them that the world used to be in black and white,” she said.
“oh yeah,” i said. “i did. but that was like 100 years ago.”
“well, they remembered it today.”
“yeah,” max said. “and mom said the world was in color and nobody ever voted on the sky.”
“well,” i said. “she just doesn’t remember it. she was too young.”
“I TOLD YOU, mom. you were wrong!” max shouted, and i turned and stuck my tongue out at her.
