a lunchtime conversation about deep throat

“did you see the article in the times?” i said to sister #2 as soon as she picked up the phone.
“nah, ben just sent me the headline,” she said.
“do you think it’s really him?” i asked.
“no way,” she said.
“why would he come forward as deep throat then?” i asked.
“i dunno, he’s probably selling a book.”
“it has to be him!”
“no, i think bernstein said it wasn’t Mark Felt.”
“damn.”
“i told you,” she said. “it’s david eisenhower.”
“i don’t think it is,” i said. “Woodward said he wrote the guy’s obituary, and why would he write some young guy’s obituary.”
“i could write my obituary right now if i wanted to,” she said.
“but you wouldn’t if you were a political up and comer like eisenhower.”
“it’s not mark felt!”
“okay,” i said a little disappointed. “i really wanted it to be him.”
