the problem with egalitarianism

i was at target today, looking for good stuff to get the peanut for his birthday (which we are celebrating tomorrow). sister #3 had requested long-sleeved shirts, and it seems the only long-sleeved shirts target had for little boys were super femme looking. so i shopped about in the toddler clothes and it seems everything has nerdy pooh or bob the builder on it. i’m not a fan of either.

then i happened upon a rack filled with super geeky, ultra-hip teeny, tiny plaid shirts (short-sleeved sadly) AND they were only $2.98 AND they had one in cade’s size and it was orange. so i got it, despite sister #3’s request. then i found one in nolan’s size, and it was blue. then i found one in max’s size and it was red. then of course i had to get them all because they were only $2.98. if they’d of had a pink one in jaycie’s size, i’d have gotten it. but they didn’t. they did however, have a pink and black shirt featuring a panda for only $4.99. so i had to get that too. because you can’t just buy a cheap shirt for the boys and forget the girl, right? that’s what i thought.

but now the problem is smuggling them in and giving them to the parents of the children. i’m a strong believer that only the birthday kid gets gifts on the birthday and it just wouldn’t be fair for everyone to get new shirts on cade’s birthday, would it? i didn’t think so.
