Public Notice

mr. furley just stopped by. he’s handing out public notices from the PLPD and the management company who owns this building. it’s about drug use and if we get caught they can evict us. which since i don’t do drugs, i really don’t care.

apparently some of my fellow apartment dwellers are a little more upset, because mr. furley quickly rattled off a long list of reasons why this is so good and what not. my favorite being, “and this protects you too. because you know if someone comes knocking on your door and asks if they can do drugs in your apartment you can just show them this and say no because you might get evicted.”

which is exactly what i’d say if some stranger came knocking on my door and asked to do drugs in my apartment.

mr. furley was also quick to explain that everyone is getting these notices and that he didn’t mean to insinuate that i was a druggie. i appreciated his explanation.

most standard leases include a clause that unlawful behavior within the premises is a cause for eviction.

Most standard leases also include clauses that state you are responsible for the actions of your invited guests, and if they violate the law, you can be evicted.

IE, if your boyfriend comes over and you invite him in and he starts beating you up and you call the cops, they can evict you. Seriously. It’s lame but true.
