sister #4 update

well we still don’t know what’s going on with the lesions on sister #4’s breasts. the trip to the knocker doctor was no help at all, since they pretty much dismissed her and claimed it was a skin problem. she was there for six minutes. so really, we have no idea what’s going on at all. somehow, she’s much relieved by the whole thing. i, however, am infuriated.

I have to go back for another mammogram and ultrasound for one of my breasts. A friend went through the same thing and was told to stay away from chocolate and caffeine by a specialist because they caused cystic fibrous stuff. If your
sister has actual lesions on the outer surface maybe she’s allergic to material in a bra or soap or lotion. Remember your armpit worries? Was that an allergic reaction?

Not to be alarmist or anything, but have her find another “knocker doctor” to confirm this (it’s a stretch to call it this, but…) diagnosis. Both she and you will sleep much better if a second opinion says the same thing. But it would be Bad (with, you’ll note, a capital “b”) to accept “skin problem” as the cause and then, six months down the road, find out that there is a real problem that could (and should) have been treated earlier.

Thoughts & prayers are with you both.

Go see a good dermatologist. The ones I’ve visited have been vigilant and helpful.

I think the first writer means “fibroid tumors”, not “cystic fibrosis”, which is a genetic condition of the lungs. Despiter their scary name, fibroid tumors aren’t malignant, and it’s very true – getting rid of caffeine will shrink them down.

I’ve got to agree with everyone who issaying your sister should get a second opinion–perhaps a dermatologist first to see if it is skin thing, and then to another knocker doctor if it isn’t? It would be really Bad if she did accept their blowing off of her as a diagnosis and then found out down the road that they were wrong.
