no place for you that i know

i am stealing this totally rad music lyric thing from the lovely ms. jena. see, you’re supposed to describe yourself using the lyrics of on artist. in this case paul westerberg and the replacements count as one.

1. Are you male or female?
“She don’t keep it hidden, she don’t know what to do
Look at that sexy kitten there on that tattoo”
hot un, paul westerberg

2. Describe Yourself
“And she’s kind of like a poet
Who finds it hard to speak
Poems come so slowly
Like the colors down a sheet”
achin’ to be, the replacements

3. How do others feel about you?
“like the petals of a flower
between the pages of a novel
a long forgotten bookmark
the end of a sad chapter”
bookmark, paul westerberg

4. How do you feel about yourself?
“I drove down deep, made a big decision
I’m going to sleep–I’m going there alone
I know damn well I’m tired of all this cryin’
On my feet as far as I can tell”
waiting for somebody, paul westerberg

5. Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend
“When the lonliest eyes
And the emptiest arms
Finally decide to meet
With a head in a lap
And a tongue tied in knots
Then the lonliest eyes
Try and speak
You were born for me
Beautiful and blue
I could die here with you”
born for you, paul westerberg

6. What would you rather be doing?
“Kiss me on the bus
Kiss me on the bus
If you knew how I felt now
You wouldn’t act so adult now
Hurry, hurry, here comes my stop”
kiss me on the bus, the replacements

7. Describe where you live
“Lonely, I guess that’s where I’m from
If I was from Canada
then I’d best be called lonesome”
i’ll be you, the replacements

8. Describe how you love
“Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now, I don’t care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare”
i will dare, the replacements

9. Share a few words of wisdom
“I walked out of the kitchen
I was tired as hell
Another day’s here and oh well
Somewhere there’s a smile with my name on it”
if only you were lonely, the replacements

You know we are not surprised that you picked who you did, and the funny thing is, I kind of guessed some of the songs as I scrolled down.
I am glad that someone else did this, it is an interesting and hard task.

This song is more than just a power ballad, it’s good reading.

    When I’m with You
    By: Sheriff

I never needed love like I need you
And I never lived for nobody, but I live for you
Oooh, babe, lost in love is what I feel when I’m with you

Maybe it’s the way you touch me with the warmth of a sun
Maybe it’s the way you smile, I come all undone
Oooh, babe, lost in love is that I feel when I’m with you

Baby, oh I get chills when I’m with you
Baby, my world stands still when I’m with you
    When I’m with you

I never cared for nobody like I care for you
And I never wanted to share the things I want to share with you
Oooh, babe, lost in love is what I feel when I’m with you

Baby, oh I get chills when I’m with you
Baby, my world stands still when I’m with you
    When I’m with you

Baby, oh I get chills when I’m with you
Baby, my world stands still when I’m with you
    When I’m with you
    When I’m with you
    When I’m with you…

    A few words of explanation:

I couldn’t help but notice that this song is painstakingly abstract. The handful of nouns -“babe”, “baby”, “world”, “sun”, and arguably, “things”, are all used in a metaphorical sense; any reference to the concrete world is completely illusory. The singer implies he lives in a place where the sun has the quality of “warmth”, which could just as easily place him on the north pole of Mercury.

What’s more, if the “world stands still” when he’s with this “babe”, the singer would best be advised to part ways. The rotation of the earth is essential to the existence of the magnetic field, without which both he and “babe” would be in a complete world of hurt.

Kant says that we project the order of our minds onto the chaotic world, but the world the artist promises, his vague object (gender isn’t even identified, or species, for that matter), sounds wildly chaotic of itself with its near-complete lack of concrete material identifiers. Kant would doubtless find the singer to be, by this definition, insane.
