i’ve just finished the delightful and amusing Ella Minnow Pea. it is going to the top of the recommendation list.
it’s about a silly island of the coast of South Carolina called Nollop so named after Nevin Nollop the creator of that favorite sentence among font creators, “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”
nollop is a society founded on the love of words and using them. but then all hell breaks loose when the tiles that make up the famous sentence start to fall off the giant cenotaph that honors nollop. the high council decides there is a reason for these tiles falling off and that it can only mean they must banish that letter from their vocabulary.
it’s just such a damn charming book. if you like reading or words or writing at all, you really should read Ella Minnow Pea.
I just read “The Body” and it was a great story but there could have been better writing. I think the ending was a bit rushed, but the outline of the story kept me there and interested in what woud happen next. I think it could make a good movie. Also, i just read “See Jane Date ad thought it was pretty good as well, though not great. Next, I am on to “Junk English.”
oh! i just got junk english for my birthday!
