welcome to the monday that doesn’t want to end. i’ve got the first-day-back-at-work blahs, compounded by a sleepless night.
i even got my haircut today but can’t seem to muster up enough excitement to proclaim my cuteness. perhaps i just need a little nap.
last night, during my constant tossing and turning, i made a new rule. no finishing books in bed. i can read books in bed all the live long night, but no more finishing books. because once you finish them it’s not like you just shut the book, turn off the light and go gently into that dark night. no, you have to think about the book and think some more and then think if you got the book and then think about what happened after the book ended.
so that’s the new rule. can only finish books during standard awake hours. hopefully this will curb the sleeplessness.
That’s a good rule. I generally have to avoid reading in bed before going to sleep altogether. Even if I’m just starting the book, it’s not unusual for me to stay up until 3 or 4 in the morning to finish it (if it’s good, of course). I’m compulsive like that (but not if I’m reading on the couch in the living room).
i’m discovering more and more that the best things to read in bed are nonfiction and short stories.
