Big Star, Third/Sister Lovers

big star, the replacements, duh. right? wrong.

i actually discovered big star in the most backasswards way possible. you’d think since i have that strange ‘mats/westerberg fetish i’d have caught on to the big star/alex chilton thing right away.

no, that would be giving me entirely more credit than i could possibly deserve.

way back in the glory days of the best radio station ever, rev105, they had a little feature thing they called evolution of the revolution. they’d play a current artist and say, if you like coolnewband, then you’d love seminalrockbandinfluence. see?

only thing is, the didn’t say “if you like the replacements you’ll love big star.” nope. they said “if you like matthew sweet, you’ll love big star.”

so then because i am a follower the next time i was at the used cd store my eye tripped over big star and i promptly laid down my $5.99 for the cd. i am sure you can only imagine my delight when i discovered that alex chilton sang for this band, because children by the million scream for alex chilton when he comes round.

yeah, it was a momentous day in jodichromeydom.
